Reid is already 2 months! Where does time go?!!? This has been an absolutely insane month and we are all pretty exhausted! Counting up celebration in Reid's second month, we've had a 2 year old party, a 45th anniversary celebration in MI for Grandpa and Grandma, a bachelorette party, a bridal shower and a 60th birthday celebration for Nana Kay. I have also maintained my Norwex consulting with 3 parties, as well as become a 31 consultant (because we just don't have enough going on in our lives...). Add to all of this a no-longer newborn-turned-baby who struggles to sleep soundly/consistently throughout the day with a 2 year old who periodically doesn't take his nap and has started waking up periodically throughout the night and you get an exhausted family. It's funny, when Micah was born I had been reading Dr. Weissbluth's "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" and Christian has questioned an entire book written on sleep...I would venture to say that Christian now understands the need for an entire book written on sleep :)
This 2nd month with Reid has been challenging - we're still working
on trying to figure out what he really likes when going to sleep and how
best to help him get there effectively and smoothly. Each day seems to
be different with Mr. Reid, and you never know what you're going to get
with him. The Ergo baby carrier has been an absolute miracle for me
this month...and I have no idea what I'd do without it!! 99% of the
time, if Reid is refusing to sleep in any other way, I am able to get
him to sleep in the carrier. I have joked with a few people that I am
still pregnant, just with an external baby vs. an internal one, haha. I
always try and put Reid to sleep in his crib first, but if it fails
(especially after numerous attempts to get him sleeping and
stay
sleeping) then in the carrier he goes. I know it won't always be like
this and that it will get easier! Usually it coincides with a burb or
gas - but happens nonetheless. So, Christian and I have definitely
felt a little overwhelmed at times this month.
In the
midst of it all, however, I have the most adorable and sweetest little
boy who I have completely fallen in love with!! I was just saying to
Christian last week as I was going to bed (knowing I would be waking
only a short time later) that I just love Reid so much and miss him
while he's sleeping in his crib:) How crazy is that, you work so hard
to get a child to sleep, and then once you do, you miss them!! How is
that possible?
Reid has grown quite well, weighing in
at 12 pounds, 1 ounce (65%) and 23 inches (60%). The long, skinny
newborn we had is filling out nicely and is very well proportioned
(minus his head circumference of course, which is in the 24%!). Micah
was 13 pounds, 13 ounces and 23.5 inches, so Reid is just a bit
smaller!
I worked hard to get some of Reid's smiles in his 2 month pictures...I was without a helper, and had to try and get him to smile AND capture the picture before he fell over. So, I was fairly successful with a couple shots:) Such a sweetie!!
Checking out big brother, who wanted to be in his crib (which helped me out as he wasn't trying to climb all over Reid in the process!)
And, I'm done!
Things to remember this month:
- how you have started smiling this month and it just melts our hearts
- how much you love your hand in your mouth! I'm just waiting for you to find your thumb to help soothing occur
- how much you blow bubbles out of your mouth :)
- how you really don't prefer a pacifier nor do you like to be swaddled
- how you love sleeping on your belly
- how you rolled over from belly to back 2 times this month (that I saw!)
- how much you love your baths
- how much you love being carried in the Ergo - just like to be next to Momma I guess:)
- how you have started making cooing noises...so, so sweet and I can't wait for more to come!
- how explosive you can be (on either end, really)
- how you gave Momma a hickey on her shoulder because you started sucking so much and she continued to talk instead of feeding you :)
- how you are beginning to take interest in the world around you (carseat lines, play mat, crib sheet)
- how your clogged tear duct finally cleared up
- how awful your first road trip was - at least on the way there (crying 4 of the 5 hours) but how Mommy figured out the Moro reflex was bothering you, and helped you stay calm on the way back home...a much better leg of the trip!
We love you Mr. Reid! We love your sweet smiles, your pensive personality and the joy that you bring to our lives in the midst of craziness. Looking forward to month 3 with you, baby boy!!
