Random May

Here is our random May post with lots of fun activities! We are getting a taste of summer and enjoying the outdoors... can't wait to be able to do it much more frequently in a couple of weeks!

6 years old!

Dear Micah,

You broke your promise to us!  You promised us last year you would always stay 5, yet here I am writing my birthday letter to my BIG 6 year old! We asked why you had grown up this year, and you replied with "I don't know how to STOP growing." :) I just love it. You are amazing, Micah. You've matured this year and had a great first year of school. I can't believe you are done with kindergarten and starting "real" school next fall! You had such a great year and learned so many new things. Your writing and reading have really improved and your math skills seriously blow me away! I've watched you grow and thrive as a student and your love for school is evident. First grade is next, how is that possible?!!? What a transition that will be for us both, gone all day. But enough of that for now, I get you for the whole summer :)

Probably the biggest change in your physical activity is the addition of a soccer team through Tri-Cities. You started with a group in the fall, and most of you continued on through the spring as well. You have really grown in leaps and bounds with your soccer skills! You were a bit tentative in the fall, but grew with confidence as the season went on and started out the spring with more knowledge and game expertise. It's been a joy watching you play and have fun and learn something new and also bond with Daddy. He's taken on the assistant coach position and loves it, and you guys have really found something to talk about, which has also transferred over to watching soccer on TV. You've developed a love for watching sports this year with Daddy and I know he just loves it. Arsenal is his favorite team and I believe also yours!

Speaking of Daddy bonding, you've also picked up a game called "Marvels" which you and Daddy LOVE! As much as I don't love all the video game playing, I know it's a normal course of action for boys, and I must admit, I love watching you and Daddy interact! "I just got a 3 star catalyst" "I beat that guy in a story quest" "That was a difficult alliance war" You guys have your own language when it comes to Marvels and it's incredibly sweet.

Siblings... the love/hate relationship. You and Reid fight A LOT but you also love A LOT. You can't stand to be by each other but can't stand to be apart. You can both be incredibly sweet with each other and play the huggie game and color together and read together. We just got back from our vacation in Michigan where you and Reid spent the 4 nights together in the same room and you were champs. Snuggling and laying in the same bed, making this momma's heart melt. We even talked about giving you bunk beds this summer to see how it goes. I'm excited to watch you with your siblings. You're SUCH a good big brother. You have a huge heart Micah, and you're sweet and sensitive and you love big. I know I can always count on you to pick me up when I'm down, or give your brother or sister a hug or make sure they're ok. You love Gemma, too. You don't quite fight as much with her (yet, lol) but you do fight at times. You also love and play together awesome too. You get her things when she asks "I-cha?" (She hasn't figured out you or Reid have consonants at the beginning of your names, haha) and you are always looking out for her.

You're special to me sweet boy. And even though you're continuing to grow up, and you promised you wouldn't :), I love you more than I can express in words. You made me a real life momma and I couldn't think of any other kiddo that would make that moment better. You captured me from the first cry of life and I'm over the moon and back to be your mommy. Happy 6th birthday, Micah!

Love,
Mommy

Traverse City Marathon

#22, baby! It was a hot and humid day but thankfully there was some cloud cover. The race wasn't easy, but I finished in 3:43:35, which I was happy with! I saw my support team at mile 22.5, and what a joy it was. The best was Reid being too bothered with the rocks he was playing with to come and give me a hug or join our family photo, haha. Oh well, he is 4 after all :) Thanks for being there family (and Sjogrens!!) what a blessing to have your support!

Last day of school!

The boys finished school on the same day this year, and I'm just so glad they had a great year. Micah loved Kindergarten, and I can't believe I have a 1st grader now!!! And Reid can't wait to start preschool back up in the fall. I'm grateful for good experiences and boys that love to learn and play and are eager for school, even though it makes me sad that they're growing up! I was able to help out in Reid's class for a little which was so fun to see. And the last picture is their post school show viewing. Some days just call for a bike helmet and pre-birthday crown, haha.

Rush Copley Reunion

It's no secret that I needed fertility help to have my babies. I had 3 miscarriages before meeting Dr. Binor and thank goodness he was able to determine my body's need and help me successfully conceive and give birth to Micah, Reid and Gemma! I will be forever grateful for modern medicine and his help towards getting me out of the depressed hole I had sunk in to. Parenting, and the journey to becoming a parent, is not for the faint of heart!

Dr. Binor and his staff like to hold "Baby Celebration" parties every couple of years and it's truly amazing to see all the families he has helped in their journey. I'm sure his job has a fair share of heartache, seeing babies not survive, not being able to help some women's dream of having a biological child, etc, so I can only imagine the joy there is in seeing the children in flesh and blood! They put on a great celebration (and even asked if they could use our family in some upcoming literature for the office!). Thank you Dr. Binor! I can't imagine where we would be had we not found you!

After the celebration we headed out and enjoyed the rest of BlackBerry Farm. The crowds weren't too bad which surprised us given the beautiful day, but we'll take it. Such a fun family weekend!!!
