Wow, last weekend was so incredibly busy, running the marathon might have actually been one of the easiest things for me to do...which is saying a lot, considering the fact that I called Christian at mile 18 crying, saying I was done:) But, check off marathon #14 and state #8!
Micah and I headed off to Atlanta early Saturday morning for a fun-filled weekend visiting Uncle Mike and Aunt Deanna in the midst of running a marathon. The plan originated when Mike signed up for the Atlanta marathon and I decided to join him in that endeavor because I thought it would be really cool to run with my brother. Unfortunately about a month before the race, Mike pulled out from the marathon because of an IT band injury. Although I was bummed, I decided to stick with my plan to run and off Micah and I went to Atlanta.
Long story short, Micah ended up 9 hours deficient of his "normal" sleeping over the 2 day period, thus making him quite a needy and overtired little boy. He decided my efforts at getting him to sleep were merely a suggestion, and that he would rather be up to see what was going on. Being out of his environment at this very aware stage made me realize the value in the schedule we have developed at home, as well as the importance of flexibility and giving up control (a lesson God is constantly teaching me;))
Regardless of the sleeping (or lack there of) Micah was an amazing traveler. It was great seeing Mike and Deanna and getting a flavor of their Southern lifestyle. We had a great, albeit rather stressful, 48 hours. And although I was glad to be home to have the help of Christian, I am also glad Micah and I were able to spend some time with family. A big thanks to Deanna for taking Micah on while I was running my race.
In the words of Micah, "Thanks Uncle Mike and Aunt Deanna for spending time with me! Sorry I was so tired and needy at times. I promise I'm not always like that. But I had fun seeing you:)"

Mike, Micah and I on the way to the start of the race.
Mike and I pre-race. I ran the marathon, and Mike, the half. That meant we were able to run 7 of the miles together, which was a really fun time. One of the days, we'll be able to do a full together.
Micah and Aunt Deanna chillin' in the grass waiting for Momma to finish her race. Check out those eyes - he was very, very tired!
This was when they were killing time because they had essentially been kicked out of our hotel from Micah's loud crying. Really?!? What hotel does that? It wasn't like there was some wild party going on...a baby was crying because he was tired...
Yep, that's about what he looked like if I wasn't in close proximity...darn those hours of missing sleep:)
Now there's my happy boy...post-race in momma's arms!
(I ended up running a 3:56:54, which I was really pleased with for possibly the hilliest marathon I've run and considering the fact that I walked for 10 minutes straight at mile 18 while on the phone with Mike and Christian.)
Aww, a much appreciated hug from my Micah-baby. I love this! It's like he's saying, "Momma, I'm glad you're back. I missed you!"
He looks soooo happy to see you after you finished.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I'd see a baby cry as hard as Christian used to when he was tired but Micah looks like Christian did when he got tired. We'd lay him down in within a few seconds he would be asleep. Good memories.
ReplyDeleteHa! That picture with Mike is priceless! Hope you've had a good week settling back into life at home (before the travel craziness begins again! Have fun!)
