Sick, sick baby boy.
Micah woke up crying last night at 3:40am and it sounded pained, so I went down to get the acetaminophen, thinking it might be teething pains? and when I got back upstairs he had calmed so I didn't actually go in to his room. Same thing, but with a shorter crying time, happened around 5am and then again at 6:15am, which is the first time I went in. What did I find? My baby sitting up with vomit on his lips and in the midst another round as well as discovering that he had also slept in vomit from one of the earlier awakenings that I had neglected:( It was at this point that I felt like an awful mom for not going in and comforting my poor baby earlier.
After helping him through what must have been a weird experience for him, and me since I can't really explain what is happening, Micah cuddled with me for about an hour, was definitely lethargic and subdued and then went back to sleep for an hour. He seemed better when he woke up, a little more interactive, ate a little and kept it down, then went back down for a 2 1/2 hour nap. After that nap he still seemed to be doing okay overall, and then we had an explosion on the other end...not sure which I would prefer. :) Neither and instead a healthy child, but I guess that isn't one of my choices at this point.
As the day was drawing to a close and we were getting close to dinner/bed time, our carbon monoxide detector started going off. I run to the kitchen to find I had left a gas burner on from earlier, but after turning that off and 45 minutes of time spent in my car with Micah, it was time to call 911. The fire department came out and thankfully all is well, but it was certainly not a great way to end the day. Taking care of a sick kid and then forcing him in a car when he would rather be sleeping in his crib, all the while praying your house is safe to go back in to, makes for a stressful evening.
As Micah is sleeping soundly in his bed right now, I am grateful for the little things we have in life. A roof over our heads, food for our tummies, a 911 rescue at the push of a button, and a God who is bigger than all our earthly troubles. Thank you Lord for keeping us safe in the midst of poisoning fear and sickness and for getting us safely through another day.
Rearing a child is an every minute learning experience. I'm thankful all worked out well. Sometimes babies even get fevers when they are sick. I'm glad he didn't have one.
ReplyDeletePoor baby - and poor mommy, too! Amen to the comments regarding the things for which to be thankful - especially for a God who kept you all safe in the midst of everything. Fell better soon, Precious Micah!
