Two wheeling pro!!

Aaaannnnddddd he's off!  Just like that, Micah's learned how to ride a bike with no training wheels!! What an amazing moment in childhood.  Not only for Micah but for his Momma too!  I told Micah when I tucked him in bed that night how proud I was of him and how this was a right of passage in childhood...a pinnacle part of childhood, if you will...and that he would remember it forever. Christian told me he had no idea what I was talking about, lol.  And Micah responded with "Well, maybe not when I'm 99."  hahaha.  Always good for a laugh :)

Like potty training, I wondered how you would actually teach a child to ride a bike.  While I didn't quite dread it the same way I did potty training, I wasn't sure the best way to help your child make that transition.  Enter small bike for little brother's birthday.  Reid had received a small bike (ironically the same bike Micah rode before he got his big bike last year when he turned 4) with no training wheels.  We quickly realized Reid wasn't quite ready for this bike yet - even though I thought there was a chance 'cause he's balancing so well on his balance bike.  Well, Micah was not impressed with Reid getting a two wheeled bike before him, and he was bound and determined to ride it himself first.  We were in the backyard setting up the boys combo birthday gift (post to come about that next!) and Micah just practiced and practiced on the little bike.  I gave him three pushes in to the grass to help him try, and just like that he got it.  Micah was riding a bike!  Enter my momma's heart swelling.  Amazing.

I love some of the faces we captured of Micah's determined look.  After he mastered the small bike in our back yard, we headed out to our street to try a bit more, and then took the training wheels off his own bike.  There was a little more trepidation, but it didn't take too long and he got it down.  We've even been off to the park a little this week as well as a running outing with me pushing the other two in the duallie while Micah rode his bike.  Two miles with this guy!  Impressive.  I see some new stages of fun in our summer plans :)

Micah, I'm so proud of you buddy!  I love you!!

Love...proud father and son moment.

Big stud right here!

Future summer plans :)

  1. Way to go Micah! Thomas just told me he wanted his training wheels off today since some of his classmates didn't have any today during"bike day" at preschool this morning.
