Potty Training: Day One

Micah did well today.  We had accidents.  We had craziness.  I started potty training on a day I had a friend and 2 of her 3 kiddos coming over...insane?  Just a little.  Thankfully she's a good friend and supported me through my crazy decision.  But, at the end of the day, Micah had a total of 10 stickers on his potty chart!  We had 3 accidents before nap time, 2 that occurred while he was at the table eating, but zero after nap...that, I'll count as a success.  He is rewarded with one sticker when he gets to the potty "clean and dry" and then an additional sticker if he actually goes on the potty.  He also gets 1 mini m&m for peeing and 2 mini m&ms for pooping. His 3rd accident happened shortly after breakfast (a typical bowel movement time for him) while I was putting Reid down.  I caught him just in the beginning phase and whisked him to the potty, but nothing more came.  Hopefully we can get that pooping success soon, but 10 #1 successes seem pretty good.

It will be interesting to see how tomorrow goes, but I am super proud of my big kid today.  He looks so adorable, yet so grown up in his Mickey underwear.  I can't believe we're embarking on this journey right now!

I can say, I'm exhausted.  I had to be very vigilant with Micah today, taking him every 15-20 minutes to the potty, and asking him every 5 minutes or so if he was "clean and dry".  There was no time to clean, rest, or eat for me today:)  Between an active 8 month old and working on potty training with Micah, it was a tiring day.  I'm not expecting anything less tomorrow, which also means I should be heading off to bed.  As I was browsing a bit tonight while relaxing on the couch, I came across another blog post that helped add perspective and reassurance to my day one.  Being my first experience in potty training, it helps me to see where/how/what others have done.  This post (same blog) also helped.  And on that note, I'll close to be ready for another fun day ahead tomorrow!
